Experience an Excursion Like No Other. On or Off-Road

When you’re out riding uneven terrain or steep grades, the Ford Trail Control technology makes all the difference, by working with the braking and throttle systems to give you even more control at the wheel. To help you navigate around tricky bends in the road, simply switch on its first-to-segment Trail Turn Assist. When activated, the system will reduce your turning radius by applying the brakes to the inside rear wheel, provided you are moving in low-speed, high-steering-angle maneuvers.

Off-Road Capability

Control Trac® 4WD System

Sometimes the transition from the main road to the off road can be tricky, be it a muddy or loose gravel surface. That’s when the available Control Trac® 4WD System with Electronic Limited-Slip Differential kicks in to offer better traction. When activated, this system locks the rear axle completely to optimize traction at both wheels simultaneously, improving off-road performance when the terrain requires it. And it’s smooth sailing from there. This feature is standard on the Timberline model and on all 4×4 Expeditions.

Hill Start Assist

To give you more confidence when driving on an off-road adventure, the Hill Start Assist feature automatically works with the anti-lock brakes to help hold your vehicle in place when it detects the vehicle is resting on a hill. This benefit prevents your Expedition from rolling and you from having to quickly get your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator.

Hill Descent Control

This feature is essentially a cruise control system that uses traction control technology with anti-lock brakes, which continually adjusts braking pressure to help control slippage and maintain a constant preset speed while you’re going down a steep grade. This allows you to concentrate on steering since you don’t have to apply the brakes or downshift the transmission.
